Heart Project
"Empty Canvas, Dripping Brush"
Acrylic on Canvas, Wax, String
I will admit that I did not like this piece nearly as much as the other. This felt more like one of those pieces where the idea was there, but it just didn’t work out, and I’ll learn better from it. My aim was to make the two pieces look connected, and you can see that in the background and colour schemes. I am quite proud of the shading of the chamberstick. This piece was supposed to represent death from more of an optimistic perspective. It shows the idea of legacy through writing and the bright colours of the pen hint towards its significance, having it stand out against the dull objects. I had a failed project during the original four projects. It was supposed to be a wax carving, but it crumpled upon completion. I did, however, like the idea of wax as a medium and of the significance of candles. This is why I added the relief element of the wax candle. This, thankfully, was far more successful than my previous wax project attempt.

"An Implicit Death With A Silver Lining"
Acrylic on Canvas
This piece is acrylic on canvas. While I got the shadows backwards, messed up the table legs, and forgot the shadow of the skull, I really like this piece. It represents that we hide ourselves in a safe life (golden cage) to escape death, but really, death is always with us. The table represents a sort of elevated platform we stick ourselves on so as not to see the truth of the ground. The candles serve more to balance the space out rather than for symbolic purposes, but in many cultures, candles do represent death and life. I tried my best to shade just with the paint and not add any sharp lines and was successful with the skull. I did add lines to the candles and table, as it didn’t work out so well there.
